Richard Strauss Metamorphosen (for 23 solo strings)

To coincide with the release of their latest recording, 12 Ensemble performs Strauss’ ‘Metamorphosen’ – an icon of 20th century chamber music.

Surrounded by devastation in Germany in 1945, Strauss was moved to compose what he saw as humanity’s ‘transformation’ by war. Each of the 23 string players in Metamorphosen has a unique part: although events affect us differently, we recognise the impact collectively. 12 Ensemble make a welcome return to CMF following their electric performances of Vivaldi: Recomposed and Death and the Maiden.
