BBC Young Musician Martin James Bartlett hasn’t left the public eye since winning the competition in 2014, even playing at the Queen’s 90th birthday service. Ben Johnson won the Audience Prize at Cardiff Singer of the World in 2013 and performs broad repertoire on concert and opera stages around the world.
Britten’s Serenade describes in words and music the conjuring tricks played by the advancing night: lengthening shadows, starry skies and the doubts that creep into the human soul. Ben Johnson and Ben Goldscheider share the equally significant leading roles in this 20th century chamber masterpiece, with London Mozart Players making a welcome return to CMF.
‘The wit and colour in pianist Martin James Bartlett’s playing was thrilling.’ The Times
“Johnson, elegant yet intense, is impeccable.” The Guardian
