Reviews of Spring 2025

Our Spring season has transported us from the courts of 15th-century Spain (courtesy of Jordi Savall) to scenes of industrial strife in 1930s USA (featured in the songs of Windborne). On the way, we felt the joy and pain of love with the Pavel Haas Quartet, visited Berlin just before the Wall fell with Theatre of Voices, and marvelled at the Pictures at an Exhibition with Benjamin Grosvenor.

We hope you enjoyed the concerts as much as our reviewers. Here’s what they had to say:

“Cambridge Music Festival has achieved a remarkable coup in getting them here. The Quartet did not disappoint. It was so clear from the first few bars we were listening to something special.” Pavel Haas Quartet (24 January) Review in Cambridge Critique

“Trinity College Chapel has surely seldom seen anything quite like it. Windborne are far flung from the kind of quartet the solemn, serious space so often hosts. Yet their sound was delicate and carefully honed.” Windborne (7 February) Review in Cambridge Critique

“A fabulous and genuinely evening of musical originality” Theatre of Voices (27 February) Review in Cambridge Critique

“very rich and rewarding performances throughout.” Theatre of Voices (27 February) Review in Cambridge Independent

“This was music that came straight from the heart of its composers and practitioners, and judging by the reception the Trio received had touched the hearts of its audience, too.” Jordi Savall Trio (15 March) Review in Cambridge Independent

“Benjamin Grosvenor’s performance of this wonderful work was magisterial and must now surely be ranked among those of only its legendary interpreters.” Benjamin Grosvenor (17 March) Review in Cambridge Independent
